#2 Building Relationships to Build School Audiences

Workshop Leaders: Nancy Mathews, Senior Curator of Education of the Kenosha Public Museum and Bobbie Malone, Director, Office of School Services, Wisconsin Historical Society

Program Description: The “No Child Left Behind” federal legislation has had a tremendous impact on schools but also on museums. Teachers and administrators are eliminating field trips because they feel the need to spend the time in their classrooms to fulfill state standards and prepare students for statewide testing. But museums, historical societies, zoos and other cultural institutions can help! Learn what you can do to develop school programming that addresses state standards and forges relationships with teachers and administrators. Discover the benefits from partnering with other local organizations to provide joint programming and promotion. This workshop includes practical information on developing inquiry-based programming and different models of delivering standards-based field experiences for young learners.
