Wisconsin museums of all sizes and disciplines, and individuals who work in the museum profession make a significant impact on their communities, their institutions and the museum field. The Wisconsin Federation of Museums Awards of Excellence recognizes these contributions, best practices and excellence of member organizations and museum professionals through the Professional Excellence Award, the Institutional Excellence Award and the Volunteer Excellence Award.
Eligibility
Only Wisconsin Federation of Museums (WFM) members may submit nominations for the Professional Excellence Award, the Institutional Excellence Award, and the Volunteer Excellence Award. Nominees for the Professional Excellence Award and the Institutional Excellence Award must be WFM individual members or associated with a WFM institutional member. Nominees for the Volunteer Excellence Award do not need to be WFM members.
Award Categories
Professional Excellence Award
Awarded to a director, educator, curator, development coordinator or other museum professional for their contributions to their Wisconsin museum and service to the museum profession. The nominee must be a WFM individual member or work for a WFM institutional member organization.
Institutional Excellence Award
Awarded to a WFM member organization for excellence in exhibit design, educational programming, institutional promotion, or collection conservation or preservation. The organization must be a WFM institutional member.
Volunteer Excellence Award
Awarded to an individual for their excellence in volunteer service to their museum institution. The individual is nominated by a WFM member but the volunteer is not required to be a WFM member.
How To Enter
- Three copies of the completed official nomination form and accompanying nomination materials must be submitted by the deadline date of July 30, 2011.
- Forms must be typed with only one nomination per form and conform to the space provided on the form.
- Accompanying materials must include a one-page narrative (12 point font), two letters of endorsement for the individual or institution and no more than 2 additional forms of documentation (ex: photos, brochures).
- Each entry must be in a separate 9"x12" envelope or a folder.
- Entries that do not include 3 copies of the form and accompanying materials will not be reviewed.

Judging Of Entries
Nominations will be reviewed and recipients determined by the Wisconsin Federation of Museums Awards Committee based on the significance of the contributions by the individual or institution to their community and the museum profession.
Awards Presentation
Recipients will be notified 4 weeks prior to the Wisconsin Federation of Museums annual fall meeting. The awards will be presented at the meeting and the recipients featured in the WFM newsletter and on the WFM website.
